Ice Blades - History and Technology

Italian hardware manufacturer Grivel details a history about how the technology used in making the blade of an ice axe. The first mountaineers used a single long pole with a sharp point on the end and now feature a much shorter handle with a forged blade made in a process similar to the legendary Japanese katana. We also look at how different blades are made for different uses such as ice, mixed, and dry climbing.

How to Fit a Crampon for Ice Climbing

Shingo Ohkawa teaches how to fit the Grivel G20+ crampon to a compatible mountaineering/ice climbing boot. This same method can be used with any of Grivel's Cramp-o-matic (full step-in) crampons paired with any mountaineering/ice climbing boot that has both a toe and heel well that the bails of the crampon can mount to.

Supporting Follow the Flag Events in North Ogden, UT

On October 30, 2020 Liberty Mountain team member Jake Hirschi assisted with an act of rememberance for military veterans organized by Follow the Flag. An enormous American flag was suspended above the mouth of Coldwater Canyon in North Ogden, Utah. The flag flies as a symbol to remember those who fell and is called "The Major" after Major Brent Taylor, a Utah mayor and serviceman who lost his life in Afghanistan.
